Paula and Simon
This wonderful day took place in Edinburghs City Chambers on the famous Royal Mile. Usually crammed with tourists watching street performers, folk handing out flyers for Fringe shows and generally a few thousand other people. This year was much quieter and was easy to spot Paula and Simon arriving at the venue.
The sun was out and it was g l o r i o u s!
Paula and Simon had originally planned to get married earlier in the year but, you know the rest... and plans were put on hold.
Roll on a few months, hotels and venues are starting to open up again and weddings are back on the menu! Hooray!!
Even the hotel they were staying at, The Balmoral, Edinburgh, had only just re-opened a few days beforehand.
The ceremony was perfect! There were lots of smiles, happy tears, readings and a bit of a resistant wedding band! After the short ceremony we all headed into the Guest Lounge area which was equally beautifully decorated in gold and neutral tones, overlooking The Balmoral Hotel!
Heading outside in to the stunning Scottish weather (which was reportedly to have been rain a week before) we stayed pretty close to the venue and did portraits in and around St Giles Cathedral, where the couple had visited previously and whilst sitting on the steps decided to get married in Edinburgh.
Seemed only apt to do some portraits there also!
I love the buildings around St Giles Cathedral and next door, The Signet Library and the adjoining cloisters which looked very dramatic with the late afternoon sun blazing in!
We all took a slow and relaxing walk back down the Royal Mile towards The Balmoral Hotel
We were lucky enough to be permitted onto the roof terrace for some photos and w o w!
What a view!
Unspoilt views of Arthurs Seat, some coastline, Princes Street and of course Edinburgh Castle in all its glory!
It certainly wowed us all and wish we could have stayed up there longer but time was ticking on and dinner (and a seat with a cooling drink!) was calling the guests.
On our way back down from the roof we grabbed a few shots in the most gorgeous stairwell I think I have seen, complete with a grand piano, randomly placed around the 3rd floor.
I feel very honoured to have been a part of Paula and Simons wedding day, it felt very personal and wish we could have taken photos all day! What a fantastic and fun couple, I mean how many Grooms have you photographed like this….what a star!
As I left I encouraged them to try the local food before they headed back down to the North West, of course, I am talking about a chippy with chippy sauce (it’s the law in my eyes) and a can of Irn Bru.
Thank you Paula and Simon x
